Great Artesian Basin Protection Group

There have been a number of unauthorised releases in the Fitzroy Basin, caused by the unusually high rainfall. The department is investigating all of these and will take enforcement action where necessary.
Fitzroy Basin mines currently discharging outside of licensed conditions are: German Creek, Callide, Rolleston, South Walker, Baralaba and Dawson. These breaches do not relate to water quality.
The department has been notified of 15 coal mines and 4 coal seam gas operations in the Fitzroy Basin that have released water outside of their EA conditions since 30 November.
